David Allan Hoff was born on October 21, 1938, in Limon, CO, to Virgil and Delpha (Miller) Hoff. He grew up in Arapaho, CO, and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Colorado State University. Dave was a teacher of Industrial Arts for a number of years. He was united in marriage to Zella Marie Brown. To this union were born children Mark, Deon, Sheri and Michael. In 1977, he moved to Cottonwood, MN, to become the President of Midcontinent Cabinetry. He left there in 1983 to start Hoffco, a kitchen cabinet accessory manufacturing company that he ran until 2004 when he retired and sold the company. Then, on February 20, 2000, Dave married Susan Fischer Crockett.
After the sale of his business, he started the D.A. Hoff Charitable Foundation. From this foundation, SPIN (Serving People In Need) Zone and EZ Building began. Through these charitable endeavors, Dave’s mission was to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to all the people in Southwest Minnesota. Dave encouraged future generations through mentorship and through the creation of the annual SPIN-Zone Award Program at Lakeview School, recognizing students who showed positive attitude, attendance and academic achievement. He served as a Board Member for both Freedom in Christ Ministries and Minnesota Bible College and was an active member of the Lions Club. He was innovative and enjoyed the challenge of creating devices to simplify tasks. He had deep commitment to Swan Lake Evangelical Free Church. Dave and Susan wintered in Arizona for many years and welcomed many friends and family who came to visit. If and when he sat down, his TV favorites were Shark Tank, UFC and Modern Marvels. He will be deeply missed.
After a brief illness, David died on Thursday, June 19, 2025, surrounded by family at his residence in Cottonwood. He is survived by his wife, Susan, of Cottonwood; daughters Deon Tangen and Sheri (Steve) Erickson; step daughters Emily (Kayne) Larimer and Mary Crockett; step sons Matthew Crockett and Stephen (April) Crockett; 12 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild; siblings Janice Kay (Kenneth) Hardison, Robert (Cheri) Hoff, and Twila (Ken) Brown; previous wives Zella Hoff and Joan Miller; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Delpha Hoff, sons Mark and Michael, step daughter Katie Crockett, step grandson Nehemiah Larimer, great-grandchildren Oliver Livermore and Oakley Barron.
