PRESS RELEASE: 2021 Tough Enough To Wear Pink Campaign

Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care have teamed up with local sponsors to raise awareness and money for Breast Cancer. The primary focus of the local Tough Enough to Wear Pink Campaign is to increase awareness around breast cancer in our community. We hope that continued efforts in the areas of awareness, education and research will lead up to a day where every woman who is diagnosed with breast cancer becomes a survivor.

Thanks to largely stable incidence rates, improved treatment, and earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, a woman’s risk of dying of breast cancer dropped 39 percent between the late 1980s and 2015, translating into more than 300,000 breast cancer deaths avoided during that time.

Despite that progress, there’s much more to be done. Breast cancer is still the second-leading cause of cancer death in women, second only to lung cancer.

  • Every two minutes, a woman in the U.S. is diagnosed with Breast Cancer
  • 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer
  • An estimated 2,470 men will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer

Mammograms don’t prevent breast cancer, but they can save lives by finding breast cancer as early as possible. All women 40 and over should get an annual mammogram and an annual clinical breast exam. Women at increased risk (e.g., family history, genetic tendency, past breast cancer) should talk to their doctors about the benefits and limitations of starting mammography screening earlier, having additional tests such as a breast ultrasound and MRI or having more frequent exams.

Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care is now selling Tough Enough to Wear Pink T-Shirts to raise money and awareness for local cancer patients. All the money stays in the communities we serve. We hope you will come out and see us at one of the area parades or stop by the office to pick up your shirt today. We are also looking to partner with area businesses to purchase T-shirts and feature them on our social media and website.
